NVIDIA is set to release DLSS 5, its AI upscaling technology, on September 3 at 9 p.m. PT alongside NBA 2K27. The technology supports RTX 50 series desktop and laptop GPUs as well as GeForce Now cloud gaming. NVIDIA calls it the most important graphics breakthrough since real-time ray tracing in 2018.

NVIDIA launched DLSS 5 at GTC 2026, touting it as a graphics revolution. But rendering engineers and concept artists criticized it as a 'garbage AI filter' that over-sharpens and smooths faces, stripping characters of their original identity.
